PUSD SIAC

Creative solutions, creative results.

ABOUT
Involving students in the decision-making and management of the Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) is not a new idea. Student voices are included in many committees and leadership classes in our K-12 schools. However, students say that their opinions are often misunderstood or ignored. The Pleasanton Student Inter-Schools Action Council offers a structured way for students to share their ideas and suggest changes. This council focuses on creating and carrying out student-led projects that aim to continuously improve the education system.

Nutrition Committee
This committee is dedicated to improving the quality of school lunches by introducing healthier and more nutritious options. By working closely with students, staff, and food service providers, the group ensures that meals are both appealing and supportive of students' physical and mental well-being. Their efforts aim to foster better eating habits and promote lifelong health awareness among students.

PR Committee
The PR Committee plays a vital role in connecting the community by creating engaging websites and crafting thoughtful social media content. Their work increases awareness of initiatives, events, and updates within the district, ensuring that students, parents, and staff stay informed. By creatively sharing stories and accomplishments, they help foster a sense of unity and pride in the school community.

AI Committee
This forward-thinking committee is focused on exploring the potential of artificial intelligence in education. By researching and implementing AI tools, they aim to enhance high school learning experiences, from personalized tutoring to improved classroom management. The group’s work ensures that students and teachers can harness the power of technology while keeping education engaging and effective.

Financial Literacy Committee
This committee is dedicated to equipping high school students across PUSD with the knowledge and skills needed to manage their finances effectively. From budgeting and saving to understanding loans and investments, their programs empower students to make informed financial decisions. Their mission is to prepare students for real-world challenges and encourage economic independence.

Cleanscape Committee
Focused on maintaining clean and welcoming campuses, this committee organizes regular clean-up events to improve school environments. By engaging students in hands-on activities, they promote responsibility and pride in their surroundings. Their efforts not only create a more pleasant atmosphere but also inspire a culture of care and environmental stewardship among the school community.

Letter From The Founder
  Dear Pleasanton Community,
When my peers and I first embarked on this journey to increase student involvement in the governance of our school district, we had no idea just how much of an impact SIAC would have on the PUSD. We   envisioned a council that would support student voice and provide a formalized way for students to lead initiatives aimed at improving the education system. I am grateful for all the support we have received from the schools, the district, and the community to make this vision reality. Though I graduated from Amador in 2018, I enjoy attending  council meetings whenever I'm in town because being a part of SIAC wasone of the most rewarding experiences in my life. My younger peers continue to inspire me, as they are the driving force behind every project and campaign. I truly believe young people have the power to transform their communities, and the PUSD will benefit from SIAC’s work for years to come. This is only the beginning.
All the best,
Nicole Zhang
